Statement on the Occasion of International Women's Day 2025
On behalf of the Arab Women Organization, we extend our warmest greetings to the women of Jordan on the occasion of International Women’s Day, which is observed annually on March 8. While we may not be able to meet in person with the activists from our organization, and the members of “Mosawa Network” which includes over 100 women’s associations from various governorates of Jordan—and the young activists of “Darbuna Initiative”, due to the observance of the holy month of Ramadan, we pledge to convene in the coming months as we implement the activities of our 12 programs and projects for this year. This is to reaffirm our commitment to achieving equal rights between women and men in Jordan and across the Arab world at all levels.
We also extend our deepest respect and solidarity to Palestinian women, particularly those in Gaza and the West Bank, on this occasion. We stand in support of every woman who has made the ultimate sacrifice—losing her children and means of dignified livelihood—due to the brutal Israeli aggression carried out by the occupying force unprecedented in human history, backed by ruthless capitalists in the West, who oppose just causes around the world.
Like women worldwide, we are experiencing difficult circumstances that divert attention away from the pursuit of equal rights due to the escalating governmental attacks—at the highest levels—against the rights of vulnerable groups worldwide. The cease of funding sources for numerous civil society organizations that have taken up the struggle for equal rights is clear evidence of this aspect, just as happened in the replacement of aid intended for refugees, children, and vulnerable groups with spending on trade that further enrich capitalists and their representatives in power.
While we are certain that we will overcome these challenging times and defeat those who seek to undermine women’s gains and vulnerable groups, we call on all women of our country to stand against anyone who violates or rolls back equal rights, we also urge them to resist any attempts to reinstate discrimination or prevent its elimination under all inhumane or non- progressive names, and to stand firm against the Zionist criminals who continue their assaults on Palestinian women.
So, let the voices of women rise to protect their achievements in Jordan and the Arab world, let their voices rise in defense of Palestinian women’s struggle against the brutal Israeli aggression.
