The CAFI project has been designed in the aftermath of the implementation of the Voices and Partnerships Against Violence (VAPAV), a three-year project funded by the Safe from the Start (SFTS) initiative implemented in several conflict-affected countries and humanitarian contexts in Asia, the Middle East and Africa. SFTS aims to improve the global institutionalization and accountability for gender-based violence (GBV) and global innovation programs to address GBV in conflict-affected humanitarian emergencies.
Building on the outcomes and lessons learnt identified during VAPAV and the renewed involvement of CARE and its partners in the field implementation in the Call to Action (CTA) on the Protection from GBV in Emergencies (GBViE), the CAFI project has been developed to work with and strengthen the capacities of women-led organizations (WLOs) and women-led networks/coalitions to meaningfully contribute to the sustainable implementation of the CTA at field level.
CAFI is a three-year project aims to promote the collective action led by women and girls, represented by WLOs and women-led coalitions/networks, and lead the planning and coordination among CTA signatories to operationalize the CTA field implementation in two regions: The Middle East/North Africa (MENA) and Western Africa. At present, six countries have been identified for project activities and advocacy initiatives: Cameroon, Mali and Niger; and Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine. CAFI will be implemented by a Consortium made of the Arab Women Organization of Jordan (AWO), CARE USA and the Dynamique des Femmes Juristes (DFJ) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in coordination with partner organizations in the six focus
countries.
